<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->A SUSPECTED armed robber killed in a shootout with Malaysian police last week was a Singaporean who had spent the last eight years in the country under an assumed identity, according to local media reports.
The man, who was shot five times during a back-alley gun battle, is believed to be 34-year-old Lee Kee Shen.
He was killed last Friday night in Kepong, a city just outside Kuala Lumpur.
Kepong police chief Sabtu Osman said a team of officers trailed Lee and an accomplice to the back lane after receiving information that the duo were planning a robbery.
He said Lee was high on drugs and shot at the officers when they approached him, forcing the police to return fire.
His accomplice fled the scene unscathed.
The commissioner said police recovered a .38-calibre revolver from Lee but did not find any stolen loot on him.
Malaysian police believe Lee had been involved in another armed robbery just four days before his death.
They initially thought he was a 26-year-old Malaysian student, but found out later that he had stolen the man's identification card more than eight years ago.
Malaysian media reports said Lee left Singapore around that time after a failed marriage, and claimed that he had not fulfilled his national service.
Media reports also said Lee was unemployed throughout his stay in Malaysia.
His 20-year-old Malaysian girlfriend managed to track down his family in Singapore, and they subsequently went to collect his body. CAROLYN QUEK

The only time anyone can carry and fire a rifle in Singapore is when they serve NS. They don't have to finish NS to be professional riflemen. Basic training for all NS men to strip, assemble, load, fire are standard training for all NS men! the moment they lay their hands on the rifle. It is not taught to them when they ORD or ROD.

Yes, and a miserable one too. SAF only teach you to use a rifle and like all sinkies , anything else beside what they are taught; they won;t be good at it. Furthermore; with 6 rounds in a revolver and the bloody banana grip with a long trigger pull. Don't expect accuracy.
