LIFE in Countryside Grove, a housing estate of terraced houses in one corner of Ang Mo Kio, has not been as idyllic as its name implies. What began as a dispute over parking along the two-way road in front of the houses has become a war in which Hokkien expletives have allegedly flown one way, only to be met by a private summons filed by the other party.

The case is now before a district court.
The Yaps, who have lived there more than a decade and who filed the summons, are up against their next-door neighbour Tan Bee Tin, 45, who moved in four years ago. Madam Tan denies swearing.

Mr and Mrs Yap Beng Hin, who appear to be in their 50s, said in testimony that Madam Tan had bumped her car into theirs several times, scratching their car. The court viewed footage from a camera installed by Mr Yap, showing Madam Tan having difficulty parking her car on Feb 3, as Mr Yap's car was parked on the other side of the road.
