New York (AFP) - Pop diva Mariah Carey has canceled a show in Brussels, saying she was concerned for security after twin suicide bombings there left 31 people dead.

"I love my fans in Brussels and at this time I am being advised to cancel my show for the safety of my fans, my band, crew and everyone involved with the tour," the US superstar said in a statement on Twitter.

"I hope to see you soon and send my prayers and eternal love, laughter and light to my Lambs," she said, using the nickname of her fans.

Carey, who recently began her tour of Europe in Britain, had been scheduled to sing Sunday at the Forest National arena near Brussels.

The move came even though the venue earlier said that all concerts would go ahead -- with tight security -- despite Tuesday's suicide attacks.

"Guests are asked to come early and not bring any luggage, backpacks or large handbags, to respond to any requests of security services and to stay alert," it said in a message on its website.

Veteran French rocker Johnny Hallyday is going ahead with concerts Saturday and Sunday in Brussels at the separate Palais 12, according to the venue.

But a number of major performers such as U2 and Foo Fighters canceled or delayed shows in Paris after the November 13 attacks there that killed 130 people.

The targets in the French capital included the Bataclan music venue where 90 people were killed during a concert by US rockers Eagles of Death Metal.

Belgium is still hunting for suspects in the suicide attacks at the Brussels airport and a metro station. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the assault, which also wounded 300 people.

Carey, known for her five-octave voice, is one of the best-selling artists of the 1990s with hits such as "One Sweet Day, "Hero," "Someday" and "Emotions."

She is filming her latest tour for use in an upcoming reality television series.
