A man in the suburb of Beijing stabbed six people to death and injured several others over a dispute about property on Thursday, Beijing police said on weibo.

Police said the man, 34, lived in Wanghua village, Hairou district – a suburb of northern Beijing.

Police only gave out the man’s surname, Zhao, and said his family members claimed he had a history of mental illness.

The man went on a stabbing spree following a family property dispute, killing six and injuring several more in his village on Thursday afternoon. Special police force units joined local police in rushing to the scene after receiving calls from local residents. The man was arrested soon after.

People injured in the stabbing spree were rushed to a nearby hospital but police didn’t specify the exact number of people wounded.

Calls by the South China Morning Post to a local government office went unanswered on Thursday.

This is the second serious knife attack reported in China on Thursday.

On Thursday morning, a farmer surnamed Lu attacked three families with a chopper in his village in Qinzhou city, Guangxi.

Seven people were injured in, including two children. A woman and a four-year-old boy were in critical situation.

The farmer was taken into custody and the case is being investigated by local police, Xinhua reported.

The two cases follow a series of public knife attacks in the past month.

On Saturday, a knife-wielding man injured two young children and an elderly person in an apparently random attack near a train station in Huaihua, Hunan province. The 31-year-old attacker from Shaanxi was arrested by police at the scene.

On March 21, a man broke into a hospital in Shanghai with a knife and injured three doctors.

On March 14th, a dispute between vendors in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, developed into a fight which left six people dead, including one Uygur vendor
