Man jailed 10 months for attacking friend with a chopper
Marimumuthu Subramaniam was jailed for 10 months on March 21, 2016, for causing hurt to Mr K. Chandra Segaran with a chopper.

SINGAPORE - Angry at a friend who told him to leave a coffee shop for being too noisy, a man returned home to get a chopper and attacked the victim.
Marimumuthu Subramaniam, 63, was jailed for 10 months on Monday (March 21) for causing hurt to Mr K. Chandra Segaran, 48, who suffered a 6cm cut over his left neck.
The attack took place near Blocks 2 and 4, Jalan Bukit Ho Swee, at about 1.40am on Nov 6 last year.
A district court heard that Marimuthu was drinking alcohol with Mr Chandra Segaran, Mr Shaik Ismail Mohd, 45, and Mr M. Tamilchelvi, 52, at a coffee shop at Block 4 on the evening of Nov 5 when he had an argument with Mr Tamilchelvi.
Mr Chandra Segaran, a driver, told them to leave because they were too noisy. Marimuthu became angry with the victim.
He left, returned at about 1.30am with a chopper and sat outside the coffee shop, facing the victim and Mr Shaik Ismail.
He then started shouting at the victim while pointing and waving the chopper at him.
Mr Shaik Ismail told Marimuthu not to create any trouble, but to no avail.
Shortly, the victim left for home. When he was near Blocks 2 and 4, Marimuthu came and hit him on the neck with the chopper, causing him to fall to the ground.
The victim managed to get away and went home. He then realised that he was bleeding from his neck, and called the police.
He suffered a superficial 6cm cut and was given two days of medical leave.
Marimuthu has previous convictions for housebreaking and theft, affray, being drunk, disorderly behaviour and breach of personal protection order.
Pleading for leniency, he told District Judge Adam Nakhoda that he wished to turn over a new leaf and had stopped his drinking habit.
Seeking a sentence of 12 months' jail, Deputy Public Prosecutor Kong Kuek Foo said the attack was unprovoked, and that he struck the victim on a vulnerable part of the body that could have led to far more serious injuries.
Marimuthu could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined for causing hurt with a weapon of offence.
