Man guilty of molesting 2 girls

SINGAPORE: A 50-year-old man was convicted on Tuesday in the Subordinate Courts of molesting two young girls, one of whom was his girlfriend's daughter.

The man, who is still in a relationship with the then 14-year-old girl's mother, had molested the victim between March and May 2009.

He was found guilty of two molestation charges, with another taken into consideration.

The court heard that the man was staying in the same flat with the mother and her daughter and that he touched the victim's chest while she was sleeping.

The second victim, a cousin of the girl, was molested when she stayed over at the flat in July 2009.

She was then 13 years old and the man touched her chest several times and proceeded twice to kiss her lips.

He did not stop his actions even though the second victim's phone rang and she had fidgeted.

The man cannot be named to protect the identities of both victims.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Fu Qijing asked the court to impose a deterrent sentence, as the man had abused his position of trust and authority in both instances, and was recalcitrant in molesting the second victim shortly after he had molested the first girl.

DPP Fu said his actions had caused trauma and affected relationships between the victims' families.

The case will be heard again on Friday.

The man could be jailed up to seven years and fined for both charges.
