Man arrested for robbing taxi driver at knifepoint

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 40-year-old man for armed robbery in Lim Chu Kang, within two hours of the alleged offence.
In a statement, police said at about 1.45am on Tuesday, the suspect boarded the victim's taxi along Marina Boulevard.
The man directed the taxi driver to take him to Lim Chu Kang Muslim Cemetery.
On reaching the destination, the man pointed a knife at the driver, and robbed him of his cash and mobile phone.
The victim was then directed to drive to Orchard Road, where the suspect alighted.
When it was safe to do so, the victim called the police with the assistance of a fellow taxi driver.
Police said they located and detained the suspect at Orchard Road at about 3.30am.
They arrested the suspect, and recovered the victim's cash and mobile phone from him.
The suspect will be charged in court on Wednesday with armed robbery.
If the suspect is found guilty, he can be jailed up to 14 years.
