The authorities have arrested a man for slashing a police officer with a knife.
On Thursday (Mar 10), a police operation was launched at a Geylang East residence following a complaint under the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act.
Three plain-clothes officers from the Technology Crime Investigation Branch (TCIB) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took part in the operation.
The officers had spotted the 23-year-old suspect and identified themselves as they approached him. The suspect then took out a knife and attacked the officers, who managed to subdue him.
However, a 43-year-old officer suffered a deep cut on his right arm and was brought to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he is currently warded. His condition remains stable.
The police searched the suspect's home and uncovered items believed to be drug paraphernalia and controlled drugs.
These items have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) for follow-up investigations.
The suspect has been arrested under the offence of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon. If convicted, he could face a jail term of up to seven years, fined, or caned, or be handed a combination of these.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations & Intelligence) concurrent Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Tan Chye Hee said: "While policing is a profession not without its risks and hazards, the police have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence towards police officers or public servants who are carrying out their duties.
"We will see to it that they are dealt with to the fullest extent of our laws."
