SINGAPORE: A 59-year-old Singaporean man was arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint on Monday after he was found allegedly trying to smuggle in drugs in his vehicle.

Authorities conducted a check on the vehicle at 11.55pm and found a bundle of vegetable substance underneath the front passenger seat, and another packet containing crystalline substance underneath a spare tyre.

The vegetable turned out to be cannabis weighing 512g while the crystalline substance was “Ice” weighing about 52g.

In another case on January 28 at 4.45am, authorities found 150 cartons of assorted duty-unpaid cigarettes hidden in the rear compartment of a car and under the rear seat driven by a 41-year-old Singaporean man.

The driver was accompanied by his family of five.

The estimated street value of the duty-unpaid cigarettes is worth more than S$17,000.
