A top State Bank of Vietnam official said further easing monetary policy isn’t the only solution to the economy’s problems, in comments seen as pushing back against repeated calls from political leaders for lower interest rates.

“Monetary policy is not a magic wand,” a post on the central bank’s website said, citing Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu’s speech in a conference Tuesday. “Even if interest rates decrease, it is only a tool to support businesses, not to replace all other policies.”

and Quang Ninh. Northern Vietnam is one of the four major economic regions in the country, accounting for more than 32 per cent of national GDP and 26 per cent of total foreign direct investment capital in the country. The region is increasingly becoming a critical part of the global supply chain of multinational companies, such as Apple, Foxconn, and Samsung, that have set up shop there.

EVN asked major industrial parks and factories to lower energy consumption by half and cease operations between 5 p.m. and 7:45 a.m. local time. These power cuts, extending as long as 26 hours on one occasion, have curtailed production and cost businesses tens of thousands of dollars. Top foreign investors with operations in this part of the country — such as Japan and South Korea, as well as various European chambers of commerce in Vietnam — have expressed grave concerns and have urged the government to quickly resolve the energy crisis. The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hanoi warned the government that some of its members could shift production out of Vietnam.

Tourism in Hanoi and Ha Long Bay have also been hit hard. Foreign tourists are fleeing as persistent high heat and power outages in hotels force them away. Power usage for public lighting systems — including lights in parks and on roads in Hanoi — has also been reduced by 25 per cent to save power. And some residents are now flocking to malls for respite from the blackouts, and even to nearby caves for cooler air.

Thailand is touting it's "massive" digital cash helicopter drop

BANGKOK :Thailand's Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin met the governor of its central bank on Monday, less than a week after an unexpected hike in interest rates seemed to clash with government efforts to stimulate the economy.

Earlier in the day Srettha had reiterated plans to inject 560 billion baht ($15 billion) into the economy next year through his signature digital wallet policy, the key election plank of his Pheu Thai Party.

TOKYO -- Economists have downgraded this year's growth forecast for Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand due to declining China-bound exports and other factors, according to a quarterly survey compiled by the Japan Center for Economic Research and Nikkei.

The JCER and Nikkei, which conducted the latest economic outlook survey for Asian economies from Sept. 1 to Sept. 21, received 37 responses from economists and analysts in the five major members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations -- Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand -- as well as from India.

KUALA LUMPUR – Changes to Malaysia’s education system which will see more primary and secondary students return to studying science and mathematics in Malay instead of English are raising the ire of parents and observers.
They say such a move will not enhance the employability of students in an era of globalisation.
The Dual-Language Programme (DLP), which has since 2016 allowed the two core subjects to be taught in English, is being reduced or scrapped altogether in several government schools, according to education watchdog Parent Action Group for Education (Page).
