A 38-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on Tuesday for suspected involvement in loanshark activities. Following up on leads, police officers from the Ang Mo Kio Division conducted an ambush in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 on Tuesday at about 7.30pm. Cash amounting to about $4,100, four ATM cards, three handphones and a stack of bank transfer slips were found on the suspect when he was nabbed. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was believed to have assisted a loanshark in his business by transferring money via ATM. The suspect will be charged in court on Thursday for assisting an unlicensed moneylender. First-time offenders found guilty of assisting an unlicensed moneylender may be fined up to $200,000 or jailed up to two years or both.
