The Islamic State group has released a video in which a Russian-speaking man confesses to spying for Russia's security service and then is shown apparently being beheaded by another Russian-speaking man.

The authenticity of the video or the claims in it could not immediately be confirmed and there was no comment from Russia's Foreign Ministry or its FSB security service. There was also no indication when and where the video was produced.

Russia on September 30 launched airstrikes in Syria that it says are focused on IS fighters and the illegal oil trade that funds them. However, critics in both Syria and abroad claim that Russia is heavily targeting other rebel groups not affiliated with IS, in order to back up the forces of longtime Moscow ally Syrian President Bashar Assad.

IS claimed responsibility for bombing a Russian airliner shortly after it took off from the Egyptian resort of Sharm al-Sheikh in mid-October, killing all 224 people aboard.

The video begins with a graphic in Arabic and Russian, saying: “You will be conquered and humiliated, O Russians.”

Then a bearded man appearing to be in his late 20s is shown speaking from a chair. He says he is from Chechnya, identifies himself as Magomed Khasayev and says he is a spy sent to IS-held territories with orders from Russian intelligence to identify fighters who seek to return to the Caucasus region to carry out attacks.

He says he was pressured into working for the FSB, to report on Russians who had gone to fight with the Islamic State. He says he travelled to Turkey and then was sent by an IS recruiter to Iraq, and had contacts with his Russian intelligence handler, but was arrested by IS.

The video then shifts to showing the man kneeling on a beach while another man stands behind him, delivering a speech to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The man, brandishing a knife, says in Russian, “Listen to me, Putin, you dog” and declaring that Russians will be killed in retaliation for Russia's airstrikes in Syria against IS. The man then places his large knife against the prisoner's throat and appears to begin decapitating him.

In the wake of the Russian airliner bombing and the November terror attacks in Paris, Moscow has publicly declared determination to defeat IS and has pushed for international cooperation toward that goal.

However, Russia's Syria operation took a blow last week, when Tukey shot down a Russian warplane that it said had violated Turkey's airspace. Russia hotly denies any airspace violation and has announced an array of sanctions against Turkey, including a ban on fruits and vegetables from Turkey and halting the sale of package tours to Turkey; Russians are an important component in Turkey's tourist industry.

Russia's Caucasus region has been it by Islamist insurgencies for two decades, including two full-scale wars in Chechnya. The IS is believed to find the Caucasus a productive region for recruiting fighters.

The Russian spy beheaded by ISIS was an orphan who was recruited by secret service and sent to Syria after being caught with drugs, MailOnline can reveal.

Magomed Khasiev confessed on video to being recruited by Russian intelligence before going to Syria and working undercover for the Federal Security Service (FSB).

The brutal execution was carried out by a Russian-speaking terrorist who addressed President Vladimir Putin directly and vowed to unleash murderous attacks on Moscow.

Gruesome: The video showed a Russian-speaking terrorist killing Khasiev, a fellow Muslim who was orphaned

Now, MailOnline can reveal Khasiev was born in Chelyabinsk, in the Russian Urals mountains but orphaned aged nine and raised by adoptive parents in Chechnya.

The following year he became a Muslim and went on to study law at Maykop Polytechnic college, in the small Russian region of Adygea.

Khasiev, born Yevgeny Yudin before taking the name of his adoptive mother, is said to have ended up in Syria after being recruited by Russia's Federal Security Service, the FSB.

In February last year he was caught in possession of prescription medication, lyrica pills, and was known to have links to drug dealers. Khasiev is said to have done a deal with the FSB to avoid prosecution, it is claimed.

He was then sent to ISIS via Turkey and given the intelligence services information from behind enemy lines.

Anton Naumlyuk, a journalist from Radio Svoboda, said: 'In summer 2014 (he) was caught by FSB people having drugs on him.'

'Khasiev was sent to ISIS via Turkey. From there he was in touch with the FSB and passed information about those who were intended to go to Syria - and who had already got there,' said Naumlyuk on Facebook.

'The last time he passed information about a student of a medical college.'

Spy: He was recruited by the Russian secret service in summer 2014, and was sent to Turkey, and then Syria

It is thought Khasiev was suspected of being a spy by ISIS after Russian medical students were arrested and convicted for assisting ISIS.

On his execution video, Khasiev looked into the camera and said: 'During all this time I contacted FSB of Russia five times and passed information about six brothers.

Dangerous: While in Syria he passed information to on six people to the FSB

'And when I contacted FSB the last time, I passed information about brother (name is bleeped out) who studied in a medical institute.

'During the last contact, Shamil [the fixer] told me to wait. And I understood that I had to wait for further instructions.

'But I couldn't wait or pass information any further because I was caught and completely exposed by officials of the security service of the caliphate.'

The beheading is believed to have been in Raqqa, ISIS de facto capital.

The city has come under heavy Russian bombardment in recent weeks and is now a target for UK air strikes.

As Khasiev knelt beside a lake, his ISIS executioner, spoke in a Russian: 'Here today, on this blessed land, the battle [against Russia] begins.'

'We shall kill your children for every child you've killed here.'

He warned Russia of defeat as humiliating as its 1989 retreat from Afghanistan, which prior to the collapse of the USSR.

'We shall kill your children for every child you've killed here. And we will destroy your homes for each home you destroyed here,' the fanatic went on.

The FSB has not yet commented on the claims - although a Russian intelligence source said ISIS has offered no evidence Khasiev was an FSB spy.

'Most probably, the executed man had nothing to do with our intelligence. A few factors prove that,' the source told Interfax.

Warning: The Russian ISIS executioner told Putin: 'We shall kill your children for every child you've killed here'

'If the militants had really found a spy, they 'undoubtedly' would have used him as a negotiating pawn.

'It would have been more beneficial than simply killing him,' they added.

Pro-Kremlin site LifeNews today claimed Khasiev had been put on Russia's federal wanted list in February this year for 'participating in military actions on ISIS side'.

In May, a criminal case was filed against him in absentia for 'participating in an armed group on the territory of a foreign state' contrary to the interests of the Russian state.

Meanwhile Ramzan Kadyrov, a close ally of Putin, has vowed to avenge the execution.

The Chechen leader said: 'Yes he is a Russian citizen, a Chechen, and he was beheaded.

'Chechens will remember. We know and won't forget it. Those who stabbed our citizen are a threat to the security of our state. They won't live long. We'll send them to the better world and will give them one way ticket.'
