Intel Shares Dip on Report That It’s Delaying Ohio Chip Plant

Intel Corp. shares slipped in extended trading after the Wall Street Journal reported that the company was delaying a closely watched $20 billion chip facility planned for Ohio.

Intel had previously hoped to begin production at the plant in 2025, though now the site is unlikely to be ready until late 2026, the newspaper reported. A slow rollout of money from the Chips and Science Act — legislation passed in 2022 to revitalize the US chipmaker industry — has contributed to the delays.

The Dow chip giant had planned on chip production starting in 2025, but construction now won't be finished until late in the following year, according to the WSJ report. Actual output would follow.

Intel is delaying competition of the $20 billion project due to a sluggish chip market and a delays in government subsidies, the report said.

The Biden administration is expected to start awarding big grants from the 2022 Chips Act, according to a WSJ report last week. Intel and Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) are expected to be big beneficiaries.

Taiwan Semiconductor recently delayed the start of production of one of its upcoming Arizona chip plants.

Because Joe Biden didn't want Intel to expand beyond America soil. No customer like China, no point having expansion plan.
