MORE than 1,000 Singaporeans engage in illegal online football betting in Malaysia, amounting to millions of ringgit per week, reported China Press.
It said Malaysia has a few underground online football betting schemes controlled by international syndicates. Sources were quoted as saying that some Singaporeans bet more than RM20,000 (S$8,128) per game, including in the international and local leagues. 'Illegal online football betting has given better returns than the legal version,' a source said, adding that Singaporeans who wished to place a bet through the website must make arrangements with friends to meet the person in charge before getting access. -- THE STAR
