'I'd Rather Regret Not Having Kids Than Regret Having Them': Single, Child-Free Women Are Getting Richer

The cost of raising children in the U.S. has reached staggering heights — leading more people to reconsider that life-altering step.

But the financial payoff is even greater for single, child-free women than it is for their male counterparts, according to new research reported by Bloomberg, and it comes with additional benefits as well.

Per the research from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, single women without kids had an average of $65,000 in wealth in 2019 while single, child-free men had an average of $57,000. Single mothers had just $7,000 in reserve.

The general fertility rate in the U.S. was already at a record low before the pandemic began, according to the Pew Research Center, and many speculated that Covid-19-induced quarantines would result in a baby boom — but, in fact, it's been more of a baby bust.

Not only does being child-free leave single women with significantly more in their bank accounts, but it also gives them the freedom to live a life of their own design. For some, like 43-year-old Ashley Marrero of New York, that means investing in beachfront properties or traveling the world.

"[Not having children] should have nothing to do with your happiness," Marrero told Bloomberg. "You can be so happy going this route, too."

Anna Dickenson, 41, who is also child-free and travels with many of the same mutual friends that Marrero does, agrees wholeheartedly.

"I'd rather regret not having kids than regret having them," she told the outlet.

Depopulation comes in many forms. But the best methods are those which people cheerfully volunteer for and believe it's their sovereign choice.

YES!! Child-free is the way to go.

Food, housing, childcare, education, transportation, healthcare, clothing, miscellaneous spending. etc. The cost is estimated to be about S$500K to S$1mil until they reach 21. As most are still fucked up and useless after 21, add in another S$1-2mil to until the day you die. Hence, we can safely conclude that having kids is a very lousy proposition.

Human civilizations had long expected that there will be some Humans whom will not marry & have kids. Such fearful Humans do have concerns, & respected for their choice as each has free will. Fortunately most Humankind COURAGEOUSLY confronted realities, overcame every obstacles from each Human era & succeeded, with Love being the power for survival of each. It is they whom we owe our existence today.

It is good that singles saved their earnings now. May the fearful singles be aware of 2 facts that cannot be denied. A) All Humans will ultimately age, & with such, frailty & medical issues later in life when one can no longer productively work for a living. B) No mortal can live forever.

Thus, who will look after them in their later years?

Fortunately, NO Human is born out of a vacuum. Each does have a family still - parents, siblings & their kids, & relatives. So guess what happens to the wealth & assets such as HDB flats of singles when they pass on? It will either go to nephews, nieces, or to charity.

Thus may singles' nephews & nieces treat their aunts/uncles with GENUINE care & concern, as they stand to benefit eventually. Such is how civilization balances out to take care of each & leave no one behind, more so in Singapore where each have assets, thanks to the opportunities worked & sacrificed by our great & far-sighted Founding & Forefathers for us.

Pardon me for being seemingly mercenary, but it is only because we are Singaporeans, born pragmatic to face realities courageously, to critically think far ahead & be prepared always for any eventualities.
