SINGAPORE - A total of 3,999 Erimin-5 tablets amounting to about $28,000 have been seized by Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers.

Erimin-5 is also known as Nimetazepam. It serves as a depressant and is known to help users calm themselves to sleep.

At about 7.30pm yesterday, ICA officers stopped a Malaysian-registered car driven by a 27-year-old Malaysian man for routine checks at the Tuas Checkpoint.

During the inspection, ICA officers uncovered one black polythene package hidden behind the glove compartment. Officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) were alerted immediately.

A further search of the car found another three black polythene packages behind the glove compartment.

Investigations are ongoing, ICA said.

The Home Team agencies assure the public that they will continue to conduct checks on passengers and vehicles at the checkpoints to prevent attempts to smuggle in undesirable persons, drugs, weapons, explosives and other contraband.
