Taipei, Nov. 21 (CNA) The 52nd Golden Horse Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at the National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei later Saturday.

A total of 39 films will compete for awards in 22 categories.

The ceremony will be hosted by model and actress Lin Chi-ling and TV host Mickey Huang, and broadcast by Taiwan Television Enterprise (TTV).

Oscar-winning director Ang Lee and Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan will be among the award presenters.

A red carpet event will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the award ceremony at 7 p.m.

Taipei, Nov. 21 (CNA) Filmmakers, actors and actresses from across the Chinese-speaking world showed up Saturday in their glamorous gowns and stylish suits on the red carpet of the 52nd Golden Horse Awards, Taiwan's equivalent of the Oscars.

"I'm very happy to be here. Thank you judges for giving me the opportunity to walk down the red carpet again and share the film 'Port of Call' with everyone," said Hong Kong actor-singer Aaron Kwok, who is nominated in the best lead actor category for the crime thriller.

Chinese director Jia Zhangke, whose film "Mountains May Depart" is nominated for seven awards, said he is excited to be back to the ceremony this year.

"We are very glad. It is an affirmation for us that 'Mountains May Depart' has received words of encouragement and has been accepted by the Taiwan audience," Jia said.

Oscar-winning director Ang Lee (李安), Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien (侯孝賢), and Taiwanese actress Shu Qi (舒淇) were also among those who took to the red carpet.
