Former MOE Teacher Reveals School Penalize Teachers For Focusing On Teaching

In a school where I once taught at before I left MOE, we hired a very good adjunct teacher. An adjunct teacher is a teacher who only teach. No need to do form teacher duty, no need to do CCA or any other school related committee work. In return, the adjunct teacher takes a significant pay cut. This adjunct teacher was a former teacher who deliberately chose to be an adjunct teacher so that she can can focus on teaching.

With more free periods, she spends a lot of them preparing worksheets for the entire department. The department teachers are aware of that, and the department is very grateful for her high quality worksheets, all of which take a lot of time to prepare. As a result, while she was with that school, the results went up by a lot.
However, most of the other school teachers outside the department are unaware of her contributions. If they or outsiders were aware, they would be asking why aren’t the worksheets produced by the Head of Department, Subject Heads or Senior Teachers or other teachers?

The answer is that spending the bulk of the time on teaching and learning matters is considered as low level work. It doesn’t add much value to the annual work review. Teachers are better off spending their time on their CCAs, rehearsals, student leadership programs, or other school matters that can raise their public profile in school. All these add more value to the annual work review.

There are some regular teachers who want to spend more time on teaching. But the school will give them more work that keeps them too busy or too tired to do so.

Education had LONG been a priority for Singaporeans since Independence, instituted by our great Ah Kongs. The results are evident even today. The often heard grouse about DBS hiring only CECAs to poison citizens' minds is long over-used. DBS is NOT just the only bank in Singapore. There are a few others, & MANY MORE other occupations in civil, financial, manufacturing & service industries in Spore that needed manpower.

Had they not hired the best & brightest minds of each education cohort in Singapore?

Had not our country been praised Worldwide for our education policies?

Had not many sons & daughters of our hardworking forefathers whom were only farmers, seamstresses, taxi drivers been elevated FAR beyond what our neighbors could even imagine achievable in a mere few decades?

There is MUCH MORE on the achievements of MOE since independence, an institution that had uplifted citizens lives.

Thus, a suspicion arises with recent numerous attacks upon MOE. What is the purpose? In the 60's, Communists tried to divide & conquer Asia, thru insidious infiltration into Chinese schools where innocent & naive young minds were twisted to serve their aims, & horrifyingly led to a chain of events that saw the fabric of fragile multi-racial society torn apart. Thankfully, our united & big hearted multi-racial forefathers & founding fathers manage to sew it back, after tremendous efforts.

Thus, what is the purpose of this attack upon our education system now?

It is only reminiscence of CANCEL CULTURE - to diminish, erode & destroy institutions so that a group can rise to fill the vacuum, akin to the Church being done the same Worldwide to destroy faiths & guidance to progress that were corroded by few, played to high fervor on mainstream & social media.

Whom had MOE offended recently? Is our nation, built upon by the hardwork, efforts & sacrifices by our great Founding fathers & forefathers, proven effective & led to elevation of citizens life for decades, to be belittled, disparaged, denigrated & trivialized by some group insidiously seeking for power not just in Spore, but in other democratic nations too thru the use or misuse of empathy in naive Humankind?

May each fellow Human CRITICALLY think & analyze issues & discuss with others. Nothing is ever what it seems at face value.

IMHO only language teachers should be expected to speak proficiently .
Other subjects teacher should focus more on the delivery. When situation arises dialects should be used for better understandings.
