The New Paper (TNP) has identified the local model arrested for alleged drug related activities last week as former FHM magazine cover girl and blogger Celestina Tiew.

She was the winner of FHM’s “The Girl Next Door”, competition in 2009 and has appeared in numerous print and television ads. The model who is also a popular blogger is said to have been released from jail yesterday on $5,000 bail.

Two men and the model were in a car when they were detained by police who found three packets of ice and ecstasy as well as $7,000, according to Lianhe Wanbao which first reported the story without revealing the identity of the model.

The Chinese daily also reported that the model had tested positive for drugs. The incident happened around 1am on 24 July at a car park at Dakota Crescent near Old Airport Road.

A witness, known only as Mr Huang, had told Lianhe Wanbao that he saw a chubby man lying on the floor, while another man was seated next to a young woman, whom he immediately recognised as the popular model.

Another witness who did not want to be named said that traffic police had stopped the car for driving against the flow of traffic in a one-way street. He said there were two men and a woman in the car.
After the driver and the woman got out of the car, the male passenger apparently started arguing with the driver and there was a scuffle.

However Tiew told TNP that this was not true and also denied testing positive for drugs. She recounted some of the night’s events to the paper. She said that after dinner her friend was driving her home and along the way he had told her that he needed to meet his friend, and proceeded to drive to a car park located at Dakaota Crescent.

When they were about to leave the car park, her friend who was driving the car made an illegal U-turn after he had spotted a police car nearby. She told TNP: “The police then stopped us and told my friend to get out of the car. I was on my mobile phone and didn’t know what was happening.”

She added that after questioning her friend, the police wanted to check a paper bag that was inside the vehicle and that’s when the friend started putting up a struggle. At this point, her friend’s friend arrived on the scene to help.

The police found the drugs after they searched the car and detained all three. The Central Narcotics Bureau told the paper that they are investigating the case. Tiew told TNP: “I had no idea that the drugs were in the car or what was going on until the police questioned us."

The incident has created buzz online with netizens shocked that the model was arrested.
