Experts Worry Lab-Created COVID-19 Strain With 80% Kill Rate May Cause Another Pandemic

Health experts are now voicing concern over the possibility of another pandemic after researchers at Boston University created a COVID-19 strain with an 80% kill rate.

A team of scientists from Florida and Boston at the university's National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories combined the spike protein from the BA.1 Omicron variant with the original virus in Wuhan. The new lab-created strain was tested on a group of mice, 80% of which died. In contrast, a group of rodents exposed to the standard Omicron strain all survived and only experienced "mild" symptoms. The study did not include humanized mice.

The COVID researchers said they created the new strain to "help fight against future pandemics," the Boston Herald reported. However, several scientists slammed the new virus manipulation research as dangerous.

"This should be totally forbidden, it's playing with fire," Professor Shmuel Sharipa, a leading scientist in the Israeli government, was quoted as saying by The Daily Mail.

Dr. Richard Ebright, a chemist at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, classified the new COVID strain as a product of "gain of function research." He then called for better oversight of research concerning the "potential pandemic pathogen."

"If we are to avoid a next lab-generated pandemic, it is imperative that oversight of enhanced potential pandemic pathogen research be strengthened," Ebright told the outlet.

By definition, a gain of function research refers to the practice of manipulating a virus to be more infectious or deadly. Gain of function research is thought to be the origin of COVID-19.

Researchers at Boston University, however, said their research is not gain of function research and noted that their study "made the virus replicate less dangerous."

COVID-19 was first detected in a wet market in Wuhan. Many believe it was engineered by researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, though the theory remains unproven. Other reports suggest COVID-19 spread naturally in a zoonotic jump from animals to humans.

The new research, which is published on BioRXiv, was approved by the Institutional Biosafety Committee, which consists of scientists and local community members, and the Boston Public Health Commission. The study has not yet been peer-reviewed.

Boston University COVID researchers have combined the omicron variant spike protein with the original virus, testing the created strain on mice “to help fight against future pandemics,” according to BU.

The scientists in BU’s National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories found that all mice infected with only the BA.1 omicron variant had mild cases and survived, while the combined omicron spike protein with original COVID-19 virus strain inflicted severe disease with an 80% mortality rate.

When mice were infected with just the original, ancestral virus strain, 100% of the mice died.

“First, this research is not gain-of-function research, meaning it did not amplify the Washington state SARS-COV-2 virus strain (original virus from 2020) or make it more dangerous,” BU said in a statement following online reports that the university called “false and inaccurate.”

“In fact, this research made the virus replicate less dangerous,” the university added.

This study provides important insights into omicron’s ability to cause disease, according to the researchers.

“Consistent with studies published by others, this work shows that it is not the spike protein that drives Omicron pathogenicity, but instead other viral proteins,” said lead study author Mohsan Saeed.

“Determination of those proteins will lead to better diagnostics and disease management strategies,” Saeed said.

The research was reviewed and approved by the Institutional Biosafety Committee, which consists of scientists as well as local community members. The Boston Public Health Commission also approved the research.

“Furthermore, this research mirrors and reinforces the findings of other, similar research performed by other organizations, including the FDA,” BU said.
“Ultimately, this research will provide a public benefit by leading to better, targeted therapeutic interventions to help fight against future pandemics.”

The study did not include humanized mice.

“One potential limitation of our study is the use of K18-hACE2 mice for pathogenesis studies instead of the primate models that have more similarities with humans,” the study reads. “It should however be noted that the K18-hACE2 mouse model is a well-established model for investigating the lethal phenotype of SARS-CoV-2.”

Good luck to mankind if this newly created Covid Variant escapes from the lab. End of humans and earth.

@glockman
How? You set up your base station in the Moon already? Please spare me a room there ok?

Escape? More like deliberate release.

The people who fund such research want a huge number of 'useless eaters' to be culled. For a more 'sustainable future'.

Almost ready, I set up on the dark side of the moon for more privacy. Just need to defeat a few more remaining Decepticon assholes. Of course, one room reserved for you.

Those "people" need to be culled first, then?

How about some Iraninan Shahed 136 drone?

Military Destroys Covid Research Lab

US Special Forces and Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Specialists on Tuesday raided and destroyed a Boston University Covid-19 research lab where scientists and graduate students had created a hybrid super-strain that killed 80% of infected mice. The BU team, which had been involved in “gain-of-function” research, had combined Omicron and the original Wuhan Virus—individually no more severe than a common case of influenza—into a pathogen that could wipe out humankind, theoretically.

The US military, a source in Gen. David H. Berger’s office told Real Raw News, took decisive action immediately after confirming the existence of the strengthened pathogen and hearing BU staff brag about their “miraculous” accomplishment.

“What happens to mice might not happen to humans, but we weren’t leaving anything to chance. Vaccines are killing enough people, and we don’t want a real Captain Trips on our hands,” our source said, referencing the fictional pathogen in Stephen King’s The Stand that kills off 99.4% of the population.

Gen. Berger, he added, assembled a team to eradicate the threat.

At 2:00 am the team penetrated campus security and Special Forces breached the doors on the university’s National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories building, a 7-story monolith made of concrete and glass. Special Forces stood watch while CBRN specialists in protective gear, equipped with the structure’s blueprints and schematics, made entry and systematically searched each laboratory on each floor until they reached what ought to have been a vacant biolab on the 5th floor.

According to intelligence reports, the building shut down at 9:00 pm every evening and staff were required to be off the premises no later than 9:30.
But the team found three individuals garbed in biosafety gear working in dim light and transferring test tubes between refrigerated storage cabinets in the lab. One of the occupants, apparently the lead scientist, said to the team, “Who are you? You’re not supposed to be here,” and when told he was under arrest by authority of the US military, added, “No, that’s not right. The NIH knows what we’re doing. We have a research grant.”

Although the “scientists” wore protective gear, the lab itself was devoid of safeguards typically found in BSL environments: there were no pressurized airlocks fitted to airtight doors, no chemical showers, no positive pressure supplied airsuits, no redundant compressors, and no decontamination chambers. A 20-gallon enclosure on a table, however, did hold 14 dead rats, as well as a single live one.

“Consider yourselves shut down,” the CBRN lead told them.

The “scientists” were escorted from the building at gunpoint while the remaining CBRN transferred the superstrain viruses from the lab’s freezers to mobile coolers they had brought with them. Once given the “all clear,” Special Forces entered the lab and demolished each and every piece of equipment.

The samples taken from the lab, our source said, will be analyzed and then sent to a “flash chamber” for destruction.

Real Raw News will supply added info on this operation when we receive it.
