Ex-salesman jailed 16 months for cheating and stealing

WHILE working as a sales assistant in the Best Denki Store in City Square Mall along Kitchener Road, Luth Lee Chee Loong took out a vacuum cleaner from its packaging and replaced it with a Microsoft X-box video game console.
He then brought the carton to the cashier and paid $79 - the price for the vacuum cleaner.
Lee then sold off the X-box, valued at $469, to an unknown person for an undisclosed sum.
For cheating the store, the 22-year-old was jailed a year on Thursday.
The court heard that a staff member noticed a Philips vacuum cleaner without its packaging in the storeroom.
The store manager then checked the closed circuit television camera (CCTV) footage and saw Lee taking a vacuum cleaner and a X-box to a corner of the storeroom on Dec 16.
Confronted with the evidence on Dec 24, Lee confessed and police were called in.
Investigations then revealed that he had stolen two Dyson fans, each valued at $650, from the Best Denki Store in IMM in Jurong East.
As one of the four-month jail terms for these thefts was ordered to run concurrently, Lee would have to serve 16 months in jail.
