A FORMER staff sergeant was charged on Wednesday with accepting bribes from a gambling operator in return for helping him in police-related matters.
Lim Kay Heng, 37, was attached to the Secret Societies Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department when he allegedly accepted $2,000 from one Chua Chin Hoe, a gambling operator, at a coffeeshop in Lorong 27A Geylang on Dec 7, 2005. He is also said to have accepted a bribe in the form of entertainment from Mr Chua at Chuang Shi Ji KTV opposite Apollo Hotel on April 23, 2006. Lim, who resigned from the Police Force two and a half years ago, was represented by a lawyer. His case has been fixed for a pre-trial conference on Nov 5. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to five years on each charge.

A FORMER police officer who allegedly accepted two bribes from a gambling operator was charged in court on Wednesday. Former staff sergeant Lim Kay Heng, 37, is accused of accepting a $2,000 bribe from Mr Chua Chin Hoe in return for helping him in police-related matters as and when necessary. The alleged offence took place at a coffeeshop at Lorong 27A, Geylang in December 2005. He is also said to have accepted a bribe in the form of entertainment from Mr Chua at Chuang Shi Ji KTV opposite Apollo Hotel in April the following year. Lim was an investigation officer and a detective with the Criminal Investigation Department's Secret Societies Branch. He quit in February 2007. He will return to court on Nov 5 for a pre-trial conference. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to five years on each charge.
