DSTA scholar who stole bras gets 1-year mandatory treatment

SINGAPORE - A Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) scholar who stole bras from his neighbours and a university hostel was given a one-year mandatory treatment order this morning, reported Lianhe Wanbao.
Research engineer Jonathan Peh Song Wee, 26, faced a total of 11 charges for crimes committed between May and November last year, said the Chinese evening daily.
A Community Court heard that the defendant's first offence took place in October 2010 when he stole two sports bras, while still an undergraduate at the Nanyang Technological University.
Lianhe Wanbao added that on October 17 last year, he unlawfully entered a National University of Singapore hostel and stole a sports bra worth $50.
He continued trespassing the premises to steal more bras until a month later, on November 17, when the manager of the hostel managed to establish the identity of the intruder.
He immediately notified the police who arrested Peh at his home in Ang Mo Kio the next day, said Lianhe Wanbao.
The police also found 228 bras at his home, said the paper. When questioned, he was unable to answer how he got them.
His lawyers told the court that Peh had always excelled academically, but unfortunately developed a fetish for underwear since entering university.
