A SINGAPOREAN man caused his daughter to be given 15 months of probation and 80 hours of community service after coercing her to make false insurance claims on two occasions in 2007 and 2008, Sin Chew Daily Nanyang Siang Pau reported.
and Former tow truck driver Ong Ai Peng, 47, had used his flight attendant daughter, Shumei, 20, to be involved in the scam along with about 10 others, including his wife, who were also brought to court.
Sin Chew Daily reported that Ong had convinced them to submit false claims to cheat an insurance company of between S$4,000 (RM10,000) to S$10,000 (RM23,000).
It was reported that Shumei pleaded guilty in court on Friday and asked for leniency. She claimed that she never benefited from the scam and she was coerced into it.
She and her mother had in August, 2008, applied for a restraining order against Ong, who is said to be a violent man. The court then gave her 15 months of probation.
She also has to be home between 10pm and 6am if she is not on flight duty.
