Cops nab trio and seize syabu worth more than RM271,000
JOHOR BARU: Police have busted a drug trafficking syndicate with the arrest of three people including a Singaporean and seizure of more than RM271,000 worth of syabu and Eramin 5 pills.
Johor Police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said police officers from the State Narcotics Department raided a house in Taman Setia Tropika following a tip-off at 3.30am on Dec 6 and arrested the three, including a local couple, and seized 902.4g of syabu and 21 Eramin 5 pills.
“We believe this syndicate had been actively trafficking drugs within Johor Baru; Taman Daya and Taman Johor Jaya for more than a year now,” he told reporters at the state police headquarters yesterday.
“We are investigating the case under Section 39B and Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and have remanded the three to facilitate investigations,” he said.
The men, both 30, and the woman, 28, had been remanded until Dec 13. DCP Mohd Mokhtar said police also arrested two men at a petrol station near Taman Mount Austin on Dec 7 and seized 462g of ganja worth RM2,400.
“We arrested both men and seized some of the drugs in their car and later seized the rest of the drugs at their homes in Taman Setia Indah and Taman Mount Austin,” he said adding that police also seized RM1,000 and three mobile phones from the houses.
He said that the case was being investigated under Section 39B, Section 39A(2), and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. Both suspects have been remanded until Dec 13.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, police arrested nine Vietnamese nationals believed to be a syndicate which had broken into factories, supermarkets and offices.
DCP Mohd Mokhtar said six men and three women, aged between 27 and 33, were picked up for their involvement in at least 16 break-ins around the state capital area.
“The syndicate usually targets factories, supermarkets and offices,” he said, adding that the syndicate had been active for the past six months.
He said that police seized 21 mobile phones, a laptop, two cameras, five pendrives, among other things, adding that police were tracing the whereabouts of the remaining members of the syndicate.
