Charged over terrorist calls
By Elena Chong
A 24-YEAR-OLD man was charged in court on Tuesday with making two terrorist and bomb hoax calls on Sunday. Ng Shichang is alleged to have called the police hotline and said: 'Hello here have a terrorist, police come.
At the Shanghai Palace' with the intention of inducing in the police operation a false belief that a terrorist act would be carried out. About 15 minutes later, he allegedly made another false call by stating that there was a terrorist and bomb would go off in five minutes.
The alleged offences took place at 9.14pm and 9.32pm at the void deck of Block 286 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3. Ng was remanded for psychiatric evaluation. He will return to court on Oct 12. If found guilty, he can be fined up to $100,000 and/or jailed for up to five years on each charge.
