Charged: Cisco officer who shot gun in game at checkpoint

A 22-year-old Cisco auxiliary police officer allegedly fired his revolver while playing a game at Tuas Checkpoint on Aug 13 last year.
Gregory Lai Kar Jun, a Singaporean, then apparently cooked up a scheme to cover his tracks. He retrieved the spent round and hid it in a traffic wand, then flushed a different bullet down a toilet.
The next day, to evade arrest, he allegedly told a policeman he had accidentally dropped two bullets into the toilet.
Yesterday, Lai was charged with committing a rash act to endanger human life, intentionally obstructing the course of justice and giving false information to a public servant.
He told the court he intended to plead guilty, and a court mention has been fixed for him to do so on June 14.
According to the charges, Lai squeezed the trigger of his revolver at about 2pm at Observation Point 6, in the presence of Mr Muhammad Dzul Adhar Azmi, "in a game akin to Russian roulette".
Later, between 4pm and 6pm, he allegedly removed the discharged bullet from the cable trunking under a table, hid it in a traffic wand and disposed of a different bullet in a portable toilet nearby. At about 4.15am the next day, at Jurong Police Division Headquarters, he told a police staff sergeant he had accidentally dropped two 0.38 bullets into a toilet near Observation Point 6.
If found guilty of committing a rash act to endanger human life, Lai could be jailed for six months and fined $2,500. The maximum penalty for obstructing the course of justice is seven years' jail and a fine, and for giving false information to a public servant, one year's jail and a $5,000 fine.
