SINGAPORE: A celebrity chef was sentenced to four years and three months' jail and given three strokes of the cane on Thursday for sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy.
Muhammad Mustaqim Juri, 35, had sexually abused the boy, now 15, repeatedly over a period of six hours.
The abuse took place in late September 2011 at Muhammad Mustaqim's house. The victim was brought to the accused's residence under the pretext of making him a better person.
The boy's mother had earlier aired her concerns about her son to Muhammad Mustaqim, worrying that her son was "effeminate".
The accused then volunteered to bring the victim back to his residence to have a "man-to-man" talk.
However instead of having that discussion the father-of-three locked the boy in a toilet and sexually abused him.
The boy's mother later visited the accused to see how the talk was progressing, but the accused asked for more time with the victim.
Muhammad Mustaqim subsequently sexually abused the boy a second time.
The accused then gave the victim S$4 and brought him home.
In sentencing, District Judge Liew Thiam Leng said the tender age of the victim made the boy vulnerable and subject to the influence of an older person.
He also noted that the accused repeated his acts on the same day.
The accused admitted in May to three counts of having sex with a minor under the age of 14.
The judge also took into account seven similar charges during sentencing.
