The MBS and RWS casinos will bring in profits and revenue to the companies and the pap. But in the long term, these casinos will cause many social and familial problems.

The pap feels that the revenue gained more than offset the problems caused. I understand the vote for the casino was a close win against those who voted against. I wonder which ministers voted for the casinos. I understand lhl voted for the casinos. It wld be interesting to monitor and see whether retribution rears its head in the future against the ministers who voted for the casinos

from what i can see so far, there will be problems. but i believe not everyone will be affected. casinos or not , the gamblers will find ways and means to satisfy the urge in one way or another. of course, genting highlands is the class playground for many. then your got LW and some other places.

if i'm a high roller, why should i go elsewhere ? mbs and rws are good enough. so are the small timers and those who just want some fun and entertainment. you lose some and you win some. but overall, if you are a cautious and prudent player, i don't think there are any problems.

the problems are those who are wage earners or sole bread-winners or those on a low budget who cannot afford to lose. i believe you can play with your extra or spare cash. if you can't spare, then better don't step into the casino.

just like playing stocks and shares and so on...any other forms of gambling.if you can't take the losses, then better don't gamble and don't play anything.

social problems there will be. escalating family problems there will be.financial problems there will be. but for those who love some fun and entertainment, mbs and rws are great places!

so i don't think it's fair to blame anyone for the casions. the best: blame yourself if you can't control your urges and if you don't exercise restraint and discipline. you want to gamble and you want some fun, be prepared for some losses and some pain.

tioh boh???

Now they're doing a SURVEY on those above 55 - why you go to casino??? Why???

Why don't they do a SURVEY on those young ones - 25 to 45 ??? I think I saw more younger and younger people now in the casinos.Ladies too!!!! And they play quite rough with high bets!!! Where they got so much cash ???

I tell you frankly: I go to casino just for the fun and the thrill!!! I know I'll lose in the end.So get some fun and thrill. If win, good.If lose, nevermind lah...just take it as entrance tickets to some fun land!!!

tioh boh???

tioh to a certain extent. casino gambling is very addictive. it's easy to say that a person shd have self control and if he cant take the losses, he shd not gamble. but life is not so clinical nor simple. if there is no casino, i think many future addicts wld have been spared life's miseries. but because we make it so easy, many singaporeans wld fall prey to gambling addiction. it wont take too long before we see the problems of gambling addiction made public

tioh also to some extent...the casinos make it easier for singaporeans to fall prey to addictive gambling...but if there're no casinos here, these "hard-core" gamblers can also go elsewhere. Genting Highlands has been the Mecca of our own gamblers for many years. I grew up with Gentings! My parents used to bring me there for entertainment...and now I gamble!!!!!!!!

But I'm NOT YET a problem. I'm lying quite low since my losses...but I know I will not let the casinos ruin my life or my job. I hope common sense and discipline will prevail.Otherwise, I surely go to the TOWER!!!

You are wise to know that in the long run you will lose and take casino gambling as fun and thrill.

I dont take much notice of any survey by carried out by the pap govt. I dont trust what the pap says including their survey results. the pap will skew the statistics they present to justify what they want singaporeans to hear and believe

Good for you. Keep any casino visits to strictly leisure and keep a tight rein on yourself

Many forumers here - visitors and players to the IRs - are quite seasoned and experienced. They know how it is like to lose. They know the pain, the anguish and the grief. They can feel the disappointment and the emptyings of the wallet and the ATMs. Many I believe have gone thru. That's why they contribute and share their thoughts with newbies.

For me, no advice but I would discourage novices and newbies from entering the IRs or any casinos. Many have gone just to look see and then land themselves in deep shit!!!! The casino environment is very alluring and very tempting. You really cannot resist the PULL FACTOR - the thrill, the fun, the high and the money you can so " easily win". Just one spin, you strike jackpot!!! Who can give you such money??? 30 cent spin and you strike more than $100K!!!! Where got such a thrill??

But one winner, there are thousands of losers!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In fact, you winnings come from these painful losers.....

I think it's better NOT to be judgemental. Even Sumiko just wrote about her trip to RWS without passing any moral judgement.

If you THINK you can control, it's okay to go into the casino for a spin.If you think you cannot control, better don't step into the den in the first place. You can get caught in the whole scheme of things - lose money, lose your job, lose all your savings, lose your house....break up your family...break up your marriage....a total wreck...and the last resort is to jump - from tower, from train or from bridge...or just die in the sleep with gases....sad..tragic.

So my humble advice: don't even consider thinking about stepping into the casino. it's not for the faint hearted. surely die one....most of them.
