30,000 Jobs In Johor Await Laid-off Malaysian Workers In Singapore
JOHOR BAHARU, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- More that 30,000 jobs in Johor await Malaysian workers, who are facing retrenchment, in the recession-hit Singapore, said Johor Baharu Branch Department of Labour.
Its deputy director, Mohd Sazali Abdul Wahab said the jobs were available in the professional and non-professional categories in the industrial and services sectors.
"The department will assist Malaysian workers in Singapore, who are facing retrenchment, to find work in the peninsular," he said, adding that between 150,000 and 300,000 Malaysians are working in various sectors, especially services and electronic industry, in the republic.
He called on the workers to register online with the department website, "JobsMalaysia" to enable it to match them with the prospective employers.
The department will also liaise with other branches in Kluang, Muar, Segamat and Batu Pahat on job vacancies, he told Bernama.
He said the department would also seek help from other agencies like the Malaysian Industrial Development Agency, the Johor Investment Centre and the Iskandar Regional Development Authority.
Malaysian workers in Singapore could also seek help from labour attache at the Malaysian High Commission in the republic, he said, adding that pamphlets on assistance provided by the department would be made available at the Johor Causeway.
