….according to another hawker who operates the minced pork noodle stall in the hawker centre. He revealed that because the hawker centre has just been upgraded and reopened in March 2011, there was no major spring-cleaning conducted last year. This somewhat contradicts AHPETC’s account about the cleaning works that was done to the ceilings, beams and exhaust pipe last year.

Do the Towkay and Syvliar Lim understand the meaning of Annual Cleaning? Is the cleaning of the ceiling an annual, biannual, triennial or a decade event?

This is a very serious allegation made by a hawker against the integrity of the Hammerrhoid “good office”. And yet the Towkay has the audacity to claim that his “First World” investigators had concluded their findings and there is nothing wrong, without even addressing the issue.

The Towkay:

“I’ve said that first of all, what’s important is the town council continues to work with relevant authorities. The market has been cleaned and I’ve said previously, let’s move on.”

Again, the Towkay is telling a very a big lie as the Blk 538 market is still not being cleaned.



And how to “Let’s Move On”, when the Hammerrhoid “good office” is still refusing to address the important issues faced by the hawkers:

When is their market going to be cleaned and should they still shut down their market again in September to suffer another income loss?

There is also some uncertainty about whether the cleaning will proceed as scheduled as indicated by the Workers’ Party – this might now be postponed to March next year as some of the hawkers indicated that they do not wish to close their stalls for another 5 more days for cleaning this year. Closing the stalls for the cleaning, would mean paying the rental for nothing and bearing the loss of the profit which may cost them more than a thousand dollars.

Also, the Hammerrhoids have still refused to give them a clear reply whether $140 can be compensated?

The hawkers at Block 538 whom we spoke to were not pleased that they paid $140 for the scaffolding, without the intended cleaning being completed. Some wanted to request for the sum of money paid to be reimbursed.

Worst, the Towkay and Syvliar Lim had shocked the entire 1Singapore nation when they revealed in 1Singapore Parliament on 9th July that their cleaning for 4-8 March was actually a Spring Cleaning and NOT Annual Cleaning, why was not everyone especially the hawkers informerd.

Now, the Blk 538 hawkers have every right to demand why on earth is the Hammerrhoid “good office” making them to waste all their time and money on the scaffolding/canvas…..just to clean the floor. Make them pay money for something that is supposed to be free is one thing, but make them pay for something that is absolutely unneeded is absolutely unforgivable.

Too many questions still remain unanswered for the badly-abused hawkers.
