THE sixth and final man who committed an obscene act with a 15-year-old male student was jailed for 14 weeks on Friday. Businessman Balasundaram Suppiah, 41, pleaded guilty earlier to having the teen, now 17, perform oral sex on him at his home at Jalan Bukit Ho Swee between January and March 2007. The court heard that the teen had been chatting with strangers in a chatroom popular with homosexual men. In December 2006 he posted messages seeking 'paid fun' as he was in need of money to maintain his lifestyle. Balasundaram was among six men who responded. Between January and March 2007, Balasundaram agreed to pay the boy $100 in exchange for sexual service. After exchanging contact numbers, they agreed to meet a few days later. The boy went to his home and performed fellatio on him. He was paid.

After the incident, they continued to keep in contact but ended their relationship in April 2007. Except for a 21-year-old who has been placed on probation for similar offences, the other four were jailed between three months and 18 weeks. The oldest in the group, businessman Ng Geng Whye, 51, a father of one and who used to be an assistant director with the Central Narcotics Bureau, is appealing against his 18-week sentence. Balasundaram could have been jailed two years and fined $5,000 for committing an obscene or indecent act with a child or young person.
