THE Traffic Police arrested 25 drink-drivers in a five-hour operation on Thursday morning.

Road blocks were set up along Church Street, South Bridge Road, New Bridge Road and North Canal Road to fence the cluster of entertainment outlets and drinking haunts in the vicinity.

During the operation, 74 motorists took the breathalyser test of which 23 men and two women aged between 22 and 53 years - failed the test and were arrested for drink-driving.

The highest breathalyser result was 90 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, more than twice the prescribed legal limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

The Traffic Police have issued a statement reminding all motorists not to drink and drive, ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities.
