24hours, widened bus lanes, the solution to optimised road use and inclusive streets (and safe bicycle use too).

All bus lanes must allow sufficient space for bus to overtake PMD between stops if they are going faster and vice versa at bus stops so the two can interweive for a better experience overall.

Of course public buses will be festooned with cameras on all sides so that in case of any complaint or accident, the video footage may be downloaded for investigation; likewise, all bus captains (drivers) will be properly trained to anticipate cyclists moves and have the temprament for safe public bus driving on the streets.

No other motorist will be allowed to use these bus lanes at any time at all and cyclist may cycle 2 abreast after the end of bus service hours or if there is no bus attempting to overtake. During peak bus service hours, only single file cycling is allowed.

Motorist who need to keep left to enter slip road will have to keep to max speed limit of 30kph when driving in bus lane and are only allowed to enter where the dotted bus lane lines are shown, likewise near junctions. The reduced speed limit is to ensure the safety of PMD and motorist intending to enter bus lanes for this purpose must ensure that they do not endanger cyclist etc when filtering left.

Having 24 hours bus lanes will ensure that road use is well optimised and that motorist are cogniscant about the different road users in Singapore. Midnight cycling will be safer since motorist must keep clear of the bus lane and more people can exercise or commute at night safely when road traffic is minimal and public transportation is no longer operational. This would spur economic growth and provide many job opportunities since some people may choose to work at night, such as
US stock market traders, food and entertainment businesses whose work may only begin at 12MN.

Police, fire and ambulance services are also likely to be much more efficient, especially necessary with an aging population and hightened terrorism or social unrest threat such as little India riots when the riot squad was unable to arrive in time because they were all held up by a traffic jam.

Example of widened bus lanes such as near Haig Road market (actually should be widened further at least 2 meters for best mixed bus and bicycle use outcome):

24 hours bus lanes will ensure that only authorised vehicles (public bus, police etc which have government installed cameras to investigate any complaint/ accident) are allowed on bus lanes at any time to avoid such dangerous bullying events on Singapore roads:

Motorist will also always be more aware and on look out for more vulnerable road users, especially at night where traffic entering bus lanes with dotted lines for filtering purposes or near traffic lights will slow down their speeds to 30/40 kph respectively to ensure that cyclist are able to complete their commute without getting knocked down. As one can see in the following case, the road was amply clear and the taxi driver was probably sleeping or drunk and speeding didn't notice the cyclist at all:

Another good reason to widen bus lanes is because from experience, cyclist sometimes are COMPELLED to cross on red light (not recklessly) when coast is clear (like careful Jay walking pedestrians) because they need to have a headstart before buses since even on bus lane, not all public bus drivers are well versed in overtaking cyclist and some prioritize LTA bus arrival times above cyclist safety. To the cyclist, it is thus for their OWN safety that they need to get a ~5 seconds headstart at traffic lights in order to arrive at the next bus stop without being overtaken by the bus.

Probably widened bus lanes would make overtaking cyclist safer as well as traffic lights to give cyclist a certain headstart will make cycling more attractive in Singapore.

Cycling and PMD use is very important to cultivate in Singapore firstly because it's environmentally friendly and costs minimal fossil fuel use as compared to all other forms of motorised transportation and because too many Singaporeans are sedentary and thus need more time exercising or moving around outdoors. Nowadays, all public transportation is heavily subsidised by government and are also extremely vulnerable to terrorist attacks resulting in shut down, road blockage and also have limited operating hours. PMD (E scooter have average range of 40km and are well poised to replace public transportation journeys with almost the comfort and convenience of a private car with minimal parking and road use footprint), thus PMD are an important piece of public transportation infrastructure in the 21st century cosmopolitan city.

Ideally- 24hours bus and bicycle lanes:

PS: where bus lanes are dotted to facilitate motorist turning left, speed limit shall be 30kph to facilitate cyclist and buses going straight- filtering right.

Where there are road direction markings including left or right turn, speed limit for lane shall be 30kph even for those going straight because cyclist may want to switch lanes and road junctions are dangerous areas to speed (danger of discreationary right turns also):
