TWO young loan shark runners were caught by vigilant residents and an off-duty police officer on Thursday. Two brothers from a Serangoon Avenue 4 flat heard the sound of liquids being splashed at their main door. On checking, they found it had been vandalised by a red liquid. They also saw the two suspects, aged 15 and 16 years, walking away. The teenagers bolted when one of the brothers called out to them. Undeterred, the brothers gave chase and caught up with them along Yio Chu Kang Road.
At this point, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Koh Yak Leng who happened to be in the vicinity, joined in. The two suspects were held and police found bottles of artificial colouring, marker pens, and debtors' records in their possession. Preliminary investigation revealed that both suspects were believed to be involved in a series of harassment acts in the Serangoon estate area. The two brothers who nabbed the suspects had only moved in recently with their parents and it was believed that the previous owner had borrowed from the loansharks. Investigations are still ongoing.
