SINGAPORE - Police have arrested two men aged 33 and 39 for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

The two suspects were spotted behaving suspiciously on Saturday afternoon by officers from Bedok Police Division at Block 125 Bedok Reservoir Road.

Upon conducting a search, the officers found loanshark-related paraphernalia which included six cans of spray paint, nine bicycle locks, thirteen red markers, four bottles of thinner, some pieces of papers and two mobile phones with debtor's records. These were seized for investigations.

Preliminary investigation revealed that they are believed to be involved in cases of loanshark harassment by splashing paint and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of debtor's unit in the housing estates of Bedok.

The two subjects will be charged in Court on Jan 7.

Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
