I READ with disappointment the report, 'Now in cinemas: The slobs' (Sept 3).
When my friends and I were interviewed for the report, I described our encounters with cinema cleaners who had stopped us from cleaning up after ourselves, probably because they thought it was their job to clean.
The report stated that I 'wasn't too crazy about the idea of taking her trash out with her' and misquoted me as saying: 'It's their job and they're expected to do it.'
My friends and I told one of the reporters, Ms Seow Kailun, that if cinema operators put up signs to tell people to take out their trash and trash bins were provided at all exits to facilitate that, most Singaporeans would do so.
Hence we did not think Singaporeans were ungracious simply because the trash was not taken out of the cinemas. In fact, I believe the 'charging' cleaners drove some people out of their seats. It is regrettable that our remarks were misrepresented, and my name mis-spelt, in the report.
