Why the PAP will win the next election with an increased majority

There has been much speculation that the government will call for a snap poll soon following a recent Straits Times report that the Elections Department has started preparations for the next general election by appointing civil servants for training as election officials.

Political analysts have pointed out a worsening economy in the next few years which may see Singapore being mired in a recession as well as an increase in the number of first-time eligible voters then may have been factors put up for careful consideration by the upper echelons of the PAP leadership.

No matter when the next election is called, the PAP will surely win it hands down to form the next government of Singapore. The only reason why it should do so earlier is to get the distraction out of the way so as enable it to focused fully on managing an economy which is going through challenging times.

XXX

70% of netizens may want to give the opposition a chance, but 70% of Singaporeans living in the HDB heartlands still believe the PAP is the best party to lead the nation during times of crisis. For every one of us voting against the PAP, seven of our neighbors will be rooting for them.

In the 2001 elections which was called 2 months after the ‘911′ terrorist attack on the United States, the PAP won 75.3% of the popular vote.

Accept it or not, after 4 uninterrupted decades of economic development and prosperity under the watchful eyes of an omnipresent nanny state, Singaporeans are so dependent on the PAP that they cannot foresee a future without them.

Another pessismistic message from Wayang party. Nontheless, PAP should never be allowed 84 seats in parliament. The current systems must be reduced to a two-party system in Singapore. We have all witnessed and suffered tremendously under one ruling party. Does it not tell enough.

The question that all of us should ask ourselves?

50% + 1 seats in Parliament is enough for a parliamentary majority and form the cabinet. 66% to amend constitutional laws.
so why did PAP want 95% of parliamentary seats and do PAP need 95% and should we give them 95%?

How many opposition MPs are enough - 2, 5, 10 or at least 33%+1 to prevent PAP from amending the constitutional laws at will.

Can you blame PAP for wanting every seats? No. blame PAP for shamelessly winning walkover seats / not having at large MP seats. Maybe yes or no.

Eventually, we still have a choice - In 2011, by averages at least 50% of parliament will still be up for grabs. Make the right choice.

I don't think the message is pessismistic. We have to be realistic and practical on the ground. Only then will we able to evaluate our strengths and weaknesses objectively.

Kudos to the wayangparty for taking the initiative to help the opposition win a GRC.

At least, they dare to openly declare their objective unlike the online CONS funded by SPH which only talk cock sing song only, but never dare to challenge the regime openly.

...70% of netizens may want to give the opposition a chance, but 70% of Singaporeans living in the HDB heartlands still believe the PAP is the best party to lead the nation during times of crisis. ....

And that's the reason why opposition fail election after election

The underlying premise is that voters must vote for the best party. Based on this premise, it is indisputable that the PAP is the best party to lead Singapore, simply because there is no other party that matches its capability, thanks to the PAP.

BUT if the basis for voting is to ensure the best party become a better party, then the mindset would have changed in favour of that capable opposition.

BECAUSE only a capable opposition can do what the PAP can never do - to create a better PAP for the lives of singaporeans - pro-PAP, pro-opposition and neutrals - ALL Singaporeans!

old folks and those civil servants will give PAP,their votes.
and also during time of crisis or bad economic, most people will go for a stable government.
that is why PAP will win with bigger margin if they were to call an early election next year.

I tell you now who will DEFINITELY VOTE for the PAP.
It's those greedy HAWKERS.

The price of food at hawker centres had gone up up up up and never come down since the last time we were conned that there is a major rice shortage globally.

Where is the global rice shortage now? It was hyped up like the world is going to starve already but now how? Another BIG propaganda con-job.
