SINGAPORE: Channel NewsAsia is the first choice for affluent decision-makers in Singapore when it comes to getting their news.

Based on a survey by independent global market research firm Synovate, 75 per cent of the respondents chose the channel as their preferred source among all media, including print, radio and cable TV.

About 38 per cent of those surveyed also named Channel NewsAsia's website as the most visited website for news content. This is five per cent more than the next highest visited news website.

MediaCorp had commissioned the Synovate survey to find out how high earners in Singapore choose to get their news.

The survey, conducted in August this year, involved face-to-face interviews with 300 professionals, managers, executives and businessmen (PMEBs), with monthly personal incomes of S$8,000 and above.

The group also included those referred to as the "C-suites" such as Chief Executives, Chief Operating Officers, Directors, Presidents, Vice Presidents, Financial Controllers and General Managers.

86 per cent of them named Channel NewsAsia as their most-watched news channel, even among cable channels like CNN and BBC.

The survey also found that many of the high net worth individuals did not just watch television at home.

Four out of ten of them caught the news on Channel NewsAsia at offices, airports and hotels.

MediaCorp News' managing director, Woon Tai Ho, said: "It's important that an independent survey supports facts that we've known about Channel NewsAsia all along, that we're the source of news most people go to for news on any platform.

"We're also the source of news that most people go to outside of home, be it in the hotel rooms, offices, gymnasiums or any public lobbies where there's a TV set."

MediaCorp News' MD went on to say: "For many years, clients and contacts have told us anecdotally that they watch the channel, and all of us have seen Channel NewsAsia being made the default channel at offices, financial institutions and just about any place outside the home. So now, this is borne out by empirical data, and it is very fulfilling for us, especially with the channel coming of age."

Synovate Singapore's managing director, Miranda Cheung, said: "Channel NewsAsia has every reason to celebrate. The survey of top earners has given an overwhelming endorsement for the channel when over two-thirds of these PMEBs feel that the channel is better than other news channel.

"I'm very happy for Channel NewsAsia that this survey has confirmed it is the leading news channel in Singapore before its 10th birthday."

Channel NewsAsia will mark in 2009, its 10th year as Singapore's first regional news channel.
