Mother, daughter found dead at foot of HDB block

SINGAPORE : A mother and daughter fell to their deaths from their flat on the 12th storey at Block 290B Bukit Batok Street 24 on Friday morning.

Police have classified the case as "unnatural death".

Nine-year-old Bao Pei Qin - a Primary 3 student at Keming Primary School - and her mother were found lying on the ground floor behind their HDB block.

A witness said she heard the girl crying in pain when they found her.

But when the police and an ambulance arrived, both Pei Qin and her mother, Madam He Xue Jing, were pronounced dead.

Police said they received a call at 7.20am and the two were pronounced dead at 7.53am.

Madam He - a 46-year-old housewife - and her daughter moved to Singapore three months ago.

The family is from Shanghai but they hold Singapore identity cards.

Neighbours said the family kept to themselves and no fights were heard.

The principal of Keming Primary, Kelvin Tay, said that Pei Qin was a very hardworking girl who never gave her teachers any problems.

He said: "It is a shock for the teachers. We will observe our children (her classmates) and if anyone is affected, we will counsel them because we do not want the children to be affected (by the tragedy)."

A MOTHER and her young daughter fell to their deaths from the bedroom window of their 12th-storey executive flat in Bukit Batok early on Friday morning.

Madam He Xuejing, 46, and her daughter, Bao Peiqin, nine, were found at the foot of their block in Bukit Batok Street 24 at 7.20am.

Eyewitnesses said the pair fell together, landing close to each other on a grass patch below the window.

The mother died at once, but the daughter was seen writhing in pain by shocked residents and passers-by who were on their way to work or school.

Marketing manager Philip Devlin, a permanent resident from Australia, and his wife Faye were among those who tried to help them before the ambulance arrived.

They were alerted to the incident by the unusually loud thud they heard from their home on the fifth floor, and went down to take a look.

The mother was lying motionless with her limbs in an awkward position. The girl was gasping for breath.
