SINGAPORE: A 24-year-old man was on Tuesday jailed three months for making a bomb hoax call to the Police.

Ng Shichang made the '999' call from a public phone at the void deck of Block 286 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 at around 9.30pm on September 26.

He told a duty officer there was supposedly a terrorist and a bomb in the area before hanging up.

The authorities managed to trace the call and another officer, Sergeant Yap How Tat, who was patrolling in the vicinity, was dispatched to the scene.

He spotted Ng walking toward the public phone again, and the court heard that Ng tried to flee the scene when he saw the officer.

But Sergeant Yap caught him after a short chase, and Ng admitted he had made the hoax call earlier.

Ng could have been jailed up to five years, fined S$100,000 or both.
