I would advise burning a big hole just to get points to keep your card status. There are plenty of loopholes in the points system that allow you to get a lot of points for next to nothing. Biggest kick I get when I go Genting with my kakis is when we compare how many points we have earned and how much we have lost in the process of e.arning it. I generally lose less than RM 200 for every 100 gp I earn. And this is on top of the free rooms, free buffet and free meals from the various packages.

Got letter from RWS that they'll be downgrading my Gold Card status to a Silver status
Think maybe still have 100-150+ GP points left [after minusing 40 GP x 2 for the last 1N CNW on Virgo in early July]
Can only use on Makan at maybe Hard Rock as not substantial enough for 'branded shopping' there
Will there be any changes when it comes to using such remaining GP points towards future Virgo cruise redemptions [ie Gold vs Silver RWS status/GP points calculation]
Heng ah - my recent Star Virgo Card is a Gold one with some 300 StarCruise points
And IF I ever go up to Genting, my expired Green World Genting Card should be upgraded to a Silver Card when I ever renew it {or will it be based on my StarCruise GOLD Status instead - so can get upgraded straightaway to Gold instead of Silver ???}
Only asking bc just in case I go for the "complimentaries or redemptions", I could enjoy the Best Benefits instead of the lower-tier benefits here !
Why not Max Out whatever benefits possible here - since have ALREADY paid a VERY Heavy Price here anyway ....

I fully agree there - that's why you DON'T see me renewing my Annual Levies at BOTH casinos just so that I could continue playing with almost-daily frenzies etc and continue earning points

The Emperor has a couple of big consistent players. I consider it the most churned and if correctly primed by the time u play, u can strike very big...good luck

With regard to benefits at the Genting group, there's really not that much difference between a gold card and a silver card.

If you really want a gold card without the hassle of maintaining points, the easiest and cheapest way would be go up to Genting and speak to a casino host. Tell the host you want to make a RM 75k deposit and open a rolling account. This automatically gives you a gold card. There is no expiry date on the deposit and you earn commission on the rolling credit. As long as you maintain the RM75k in your account, you get to keep your gold card. With this gold card, you can apply to RWS, Star Cruises etc for the respective Gold cards.

If going to Genting is too much of a hassle, you can also do the same at RWS. In Singapore, the deposit is S$100k. The advantage is that is you get access to your funds without having to go up. Which might not be a good thing as you would be tempted to gamble more.

Earlier this year, I was very tempted to make the RM75k deposit to get the gold card as it is only about S$30k. Assuming a current FD rate of 1%, this translates to only about $300 in lost interest per year. Viewed another way, you pay $300 to have the privilege of walking around with a gold card without having to bother about gameplay to maintain points. As is, I already keep about RM10k credit in my card to avoid the hassle of carrying stacks of RM50/RM100 every time I go and play.

In the end, I decided against it as there are not that many benefits of a gold card over a silver card. Also flashing a gold card would make the staff take more notice of you, which make running exploits to earn points inconvenient. As I mentioned before, my points keep piling up because the packages already give me free room, free buffet and free meals. It is therefore hard to find good stuff to redeem the points for.

Within the Genting group, there is not that much difference between the silver and the gold card. There is however a huge jump in benefits if you are a platinum card holder. Being a platinum card holder entitles you to stay at the Club Elite Suites. Some pictures from 2008.
