to the christian, it's a no no to enter temple. but to a buddhist, it's ok to go to church though they don't really endorse or encourage it.

a buddhist has the choice to AGREE TO DISAGREE or DISAGREE TO DISAGREE.

cheem!!

don't take religions too seriously. I seen peoples switch from Buddhistian to Christianity, vice versea, again and again.

Many are more serious toward a football club. Most solely supported Liverpool or Manchester United for decades.

man without a religion - is he better off or worst? one who believes in more than ONE religion, would it be better?

varieties of food is to our body, i wonder indulging in variety of religions would improve our spirituality.

that's why i m diving into this very important pilgrimage to hopefully find an answer (or excuse). and boy!! the menu of the foods provided is making me drooling even before i set off!:p

Christians can enter temples. There's a difference between visiting and worshipping there. I've entered Buddhist and Hindu temples, Jewish synagogues and even Muslim mosques before. However, for synagogues and mosques, it's customary to be escorted by a Jewish or Muslim friend and the prayer halls are for believers only, out of bounds to non-believing visitors.

There's no problem with walk-in entry to any Buddhist or Hindu temple. But it's respectful to dress, behave and speak appropriately. I've even attended a Buddhist course in a temple for a few months. They have no problem with me putting "Christian" on the application form and "non-religious philosophical interest" as the purpose of attending the course.

In fact, I agree with most of Buddha's teachings about humanities. Nothing much clashes with Jesus' teachings except the doctrine of reincarnation, which wasn't even Buddhist to begin with; it was Hindu in origin. And of course, Buddha had never claimed himself to be God. I looked to him like a great teacher and philosophy. Just like ancient China's Lao Tze taught nature and universal balance, but somehow his Taoism became a pantheon of deities.

Buddhist do not pray to idol. Buddha is not a God, Buddha is our teacher.
Buddha and Christ would be the best of friend and I think they would treat each other with alot of respect.
God creates but man segregates.

love and compassion give rise to accomodation, respect and living in harmony. however, usually when one is too "immersed", then arrogance takes over instead. one such example was RONY TAN who mocked at other religion. he is a pastor and yet he did it.

of course, it wasn't the religion that is at fault rather it was the person who thinking himself as pious got carried away.

thich nahn hanh, a vietnamese buddhist monk residing in FRANCE wrote this book:

JESUS & BUDDHA ARE BROTHERS

it's a very interesting book which compliments both religions for a common interest about love, compassion and an indepth mindfulness.

It's nonsense that Christians cannot enter temples or hold joss sticks. A Christian should not allow any human (or ex-human) to replace God that's all. Just like how you worship God is dependent on sincere heart, same goes to your heart on idols. If you believe in the Christian God, you can pretend to worship idols but if you are just going through the motions because your mum/dad nagged you to, it's not allowing them to replace God.

Buddha never told people to worship him. In that sense, people should not replace him with God. The Buddhist teachings tell people to do good. But I think after many years with lots of books telling people to do good and Buddhism being inclusive to all that and religions, it sort of renders Buddhism redundant.

Just like ancient China's Lao Tze taught nature and universal balance, but somehow his Taoism became a pantheon of deities.

Buddhism also developed many deities once it went into China and "crossbred" with many Taoist deities. I think both great Shakamunyi and Confucious teachers didn't realize that their teachings would by changed by others to that extent. They forgot to add that one "warning" that Christianity did.

Chrsitianity made sure that its teaching shall not be changed by adding a "warning" - thou shall not change God's Word. Once the bible was completed, it stayed there, although I wouldn't say it's exactly 100% the same (due to translation, versions, selective compilation) but the meaning stayed. Despite that there are 3 types of bibles.

i didn't realise that there were so many version of the bibles. there are also many buddhist sutras. if one of the sutras leads one to buddhahood, could it be the same that one version (or chapter) of the bible lead to God? sutra is to chanting while bible is more to praying.

getting confusing or clearer?

the pilgrimage i went to was very enlightening.

"the kingdom of God is within you", the preacher stressed.

similarly, buddha is also you - 佛在人心.

whoever buddhist or christian, the important thing is to be happy, live happily and spread the happiness around.

everyone is a lighted candle and if a candle is lighted, it shines and defeats the darkness. the more lighted candles there are , the intensity of darkness shall diminish....so let your light shines whether u r a buddhist or a christian. they are the same.

sadhu, sadhu...amen!

when guests, relatives and friends visit u, graciously u shall serve them tea and some tidbits. however, if your visitors do not partake your tidbits, then you would have to keep them back.

similarly, insults hurled here by losers and cowards for seemingly a simple discussion incurring such deplorable responses is rather strangely immature. the losers and cowards would have to keep them back and sulk in one damp corner pondering over their foolish behaviour.
