A MAN who punched and kicked a program manager, causing the victim to suffer a broken nose was jailed for six weeks on Tuesday. Tan Soon Heng, 35, a financial advisor, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of causing hurt to Chen Jinhui at about 3 am at the carpark of St James Power Station last Sept 9. The court heard that Chen, 29, and Ms Samantha Koh Ser Mien, 19, a personal assistant, were walking towards the carpark after clubbing with friends when the couple stopped to hug each other.
Mr Chen told two male friends to leave first as he intended to send Ms Koh home. Suddenly, the victim felt someone grabbing and pulling his left shoulder. Before he could respond, Tan punched him on the left eye, causing him to fall. Tan then kicked him too. The victim's two friends rushed forward and pushed Tan away. Mr Chen suffered bruising on the left eye with a cut on the upper eye lid as well as a nasal bone fracture. Tan's lawyer Low Hui Hui said his client was under the impression that Ms Koh, his girlfriend, was being molested by the victim. He did not know that the victim had a relationship with the girl. Tan could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000.
