From zaobao... roughly it says:
Govt to build underwater nuclear generator southwest of Singapore.
It's going to be 20 km south of Singapore, about 10 km from Jurong Island and 15 km from Sentosa. From the map this place is between Pulau Senang and Pulau Semakau.
The construction method will be similar to that of the underground oil storage facility of Jurong Island.
This place was also chosen because it's 20 km from Singapore mainland. According to Nuclear safety regulation, there should be a 20 km buffer zone between nuclear facility and city.

Somehow many people associate nuclear power reactors with images of nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Let's put it this way, the nuclear countries don't sell nuclear weapons (except between US and UK). Why are nuclear power reactors up for sale then? Because they're not weapons and won't blow up like nuclear bombs even in accident. Even in Chernobyl, it's just some small fires and radioactivity leaks. Yes, radioactivity leaks are poisonous. But as in everything else, follow the user's manual instruction and precaution carefully and all would be fine.

now beside selling water at a astronomical price to johor, we can start selling electricity

How is that going to be possible. sentosa and the city are clearly not very far away. unless the city is in toa payoh or something.

As long as it's far enuff from Oxley Road and Rochalie Ave, it's OK!

In my view this is stupid idea. Why do we need so much power. If it is water then deal with the Malaysian. Singapore, unlike US, UK, France, Japan is small and does not have much of a buffer. Singapore is an oil distribution center and as such we have easy source of oil as energy.

In the countries mentioned above, they could, if needed, relocated their pop out of a 200 km radius from the affected site with no problem. We have no place to relocated to? Our concept as a nation would be gone forever - this is a price too high to pay!

There must be room for error in nuclear technology. Why not just share a project with the Malaysian/Indonesians and transmit their power to Singapore. Nuclear stations are cheap. We spend close to $12B on casinos and lost close to $15B (or more) from GIC.

So go tell Indonesia we do a JV on some island under a 50 year build operate transfer plan. We build the nuclear plan on an island 200 km from Singapore (cost US$10B). We operate the plant and supply 20% of power output to the Indonesians and the rest is transmitted to Singapore. In 50 years time, alternative energy might have caught up and give us new options or at the very least we would be able to use the best nuclear technology available then and build closer to Singapore.

i don't think its a stupid idea.

first we can sell electricity to neighbouring country. next it is suppose to be a lot cheaper, electricity price should goes down. but given the greedy nature of our gov, i highly doubt so in this case.

most imptly the govt will not need to carry the balls from the middle east.

That's a good idea.

I think you dont understand the world wide trend, they are moving away from fossil fuel.
With increasing demand from BRIC countries, theres a limited amount of fossil fuel and even if theres enough we are going to pay very high prices for it and with the green movement in ascendency we are opting for lesser carbon footprints.
Clean drinking water is going to get lesser and lesser even in countries with abundant water resources.

Nuclear Power is also old technology and soon the GREEN movement might be pressuring the adoption of SAFER options by using renewable energy because of the dangers and problems of getting rid of spent nuclear fuel.

Perhaps Singapore might have aspirations to process weapons grade nuclear material in secret under the guise of operating a nuclear plant for energy needs? LKY's paranoia knows no bounds, fear of assasination, fear of invasion etc etc.

Another con project from PAPees to tell you Sinikies avoid dirty works in constructions and therefore F/Trashes are needed.

Another gahment project to boost economy, once agin no private investor, local or overseas investors are keen on taking Sg major or mega projects.

So it is PAP pumping your CPF money into mega projects one after another but this time give jobs to F/Trashes.

So if you voted out PAPees this GE, this proejct will be scraped.
