the producing team at mediacorp for this type of fund raising event love to show you how "cham" those people to make you part with you money and of course bring in a lot of those overseas stars at a cost. this is their modus operandi since NKF.

our gov will not let an organization grow too big "freely". best example CDAC, when it was founded by SCCCI and SFCCA to help the local Chinese. i was so happy and willing to contribute. but after papees infiltrated CDAC and they start employing tudong girl scolding fellow chinese singaporean asking for help, i cancel my monthly contribution. i think this is what happened to thong chai after papees infiltrated the board of directors. they will want a yearly mega fund raising event and let mediacorp make millions and telco make millions and thong chai will also have millions of reserve. this is the papees directors style, so obsess with reserve!

Disgusting ! every year so many fund raising on national TV.Why don'tthey make it simple,just ask all the multi-million papdog ministers or the rich property developers like FE or capital land or REIT to donate some money....Life in sinkeeland already difficult and depressing,we sinkees don't need any more depressing depressing pictures.But as u all know,they will do anything to get more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
even just collecting (Not earning)multi-million dollar salary say not enough,even u give them the sky they also say not enough !

actually if want to donate, just donate directly to the organisations and not via such publicity drive.

if Mediacorp is genuinely wanted to help, they should waive their production costs. Every dollar we donate, almost 50% goes to Mediacorp.

What really piss me is, even Singtel must charge 20cents admin charge - for fuck? Admin simi lan? during normal times, they still need manpower to maintain the integrity of the network, as if during donation drive, they deploy more people.

its just a stupid excuse to charge some money.

In other words , these charity drives on TV are just benefitting the TV and telephone guys.

And so, these poor crying souls are used as subterfuges under the pretext of charity.

Quite true, Thong Chai does have a voluntary donation box, if the charity is sincere, these media guys should just inform charitable people to go down to Chin Swee road where Thong Chai is and donate directly to the clinic.

Charity should not factor the cost of performers, airtime and call time, most of all, those people helping and making the show possible should not get paid for all these charity drives.

Doing charity is an easy task, why make it so complicating and heart rending to shed tears ?

May be Overpopulated Singapore with increasing foreigners like PRs, permit holders, and their kins are thronging this free clinic and straining on their resources thus.

want to donate?? simple... just walk to the nearest coffeeshop in an old estate like bukit merah or redhill... sure you can find an old ah mah collecting empty drink cans... just give her 10 bucks....
all these fucking tv wayangs are just to suck your money into the PAP black holes....

Do you know that there are now lots of "charity salesmen" approaching people near mrt stations and asking for donations?
Why should we donate through them and let them take a cut? We might as well donate directly to the organization or better still, as suggested by another poster, go and look for poor people collecting cans and give to them directly.

I believe donations should come from the heart and should be done direct to the organisations. There's no need for such a big wayang show just to get people to donate. Afterall, as pointed out by most people here, its still the tv station and telcos that made money + the jokers in mediacorp behind such idea... Most prob hit his/her KPI for the work-year.

Seriously, if all our MPs and Minister were to donate 10% of what they earned... I think most of our charty organisation will do well already.

Those earning don't do much... keep squeezing those at the bottom...
