my sentiments exact!

why not make it a criteria that anyone who is on the "PTC" MUST take public transport when commuting around S'pore.
i don't think this an unreasonable request.

1. Ms Angeline Ang, a political correspondent with Lianhe Zaobao;

She is a council member on NYC of which TEO SER LUCK is the chairman.

2. Mr Chan Boon Fui, group director of Policy at People's Association;

Guess who the Chairman of People’s Association is!

3. Mr Rajendran Govindarajoo, president of the Chemical Industries Employees' Union;

He could be a voice for the common workers.

4. Mr Noel Hon, chairman of e-Cop; and

…Council members will perform the role of regulating bus operators and bus services, ticket payment services, and bus and rapid transit system fares.

e-Cop’s Managed Security Services (MSS) are designed to help enterprises and government agencies to cost-effectively outsource and manage its organisation’s security needs.

1) How does his expertise in e-Cop helps in the role of a Council member?
2) He was previously paid consultancies fees by the gov't ???

5. Professor Phang Sock Yong, Professor of Economics at Singapore Management University.

Professor Phang is also a Chartered Financial Analyst and has been a consultant to the World Bank and various government agencies for several projects. She has previously served on the boards of Singapore’s Land Transport Authority and Urban Redevelopment Authority and has been a Commission Member of the Competition Commission of Singapore since its inauguration in 2005.

Should I start doing the same for the rest of the council members?

The Public Transport Council (PTC) was established in 1987 as an independent body to approve and regulate bus services, public transport fares and ticket payment services. It is entrusted with the challenging mission of balancing commuters' interest with the long-term viability of the public transport operators.

Council Members were appointed on the basis of their competency, good public standing and experience, especially their ability to contribute effectively to PTC's deliberations on issues relating to public transport. They are drawn from a wide cross-section of society including:

* professional services
* business enterprises
* academic institutions
* labour unions
* grassroots organisations

Many of the Council Members are regular users of public transport and all are familiar with the operations of the public transport system both locally and overseas.

Although they meet the requirements stated (other than the one in red), it is hard to believe that 4/5 of the newly appointed members are not somewhat linked to PAP. I don't think these pple take public transport.

Cheezzz....

They all drive their own cars, and ERP is good for them cause it reduces the irritation of too many other drivers jamming their paths. It's very affordable to them (based on their salaries) and a simpler way than to horn at other drivers and risk getting beaten up.

Ensuring comfort despite numbers

We are discussing the upgrading of the signalling system with the LTA and will continue to introduce initiatives to address commuters' feedback and the observations of more than 6,000 SMRT employees, including our senior management, who travel on the trains daily or regularly.

Everytime PAP said an independent committee is set up, at least 50% are PAP members. Is this called independent?
