SINGAPORE: A young man who helped a loan shark to transfer money using the ATM has been sentenced to 14 months in jail.
21-year-old Cheng Hwee Yeong was also fined S$140,000 by a district court. He will serve another 14 months if he cannot pay the fine.
The debtor-turned-runner had lost money from football betting and turned to a loan shark for help.
He was subsequently arrested in August at an ATM in Ang Mo Kio.
Cheng has previous convictions for helping loan sharks and also for theft and drug consumption. - TODAY/vm
