'Sengkang molester' nabbed

<!-- by line --> Preventive measures to take:

POLICE have advised members of the public, especially the women, to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

* Avoid going home alone. If you have to, make arrangements to be accompanied by a family member or a trusted friend.
* Be alert of your surroundings. If you feel that you are being followed, stay calm. Call the police and proceed to a nearby area with heavy human traffic.
* If you are confronted, stay calm and take note of the culprit's description. Notify the police as soon as possible so that officers can quickly reach the incident scene and assist you.

<!-- story content : start --> POLICE have arrested a 15 year-old youth who is believed to have molested 12 female victims aged between 14 and 39 years in the Sengkang housing estate. The latest molest case was reported last Saturday. In most of the cases, the victims were unable to provide a detailed description of the suspect as the assault came from behind and the shocked victims could only catch a glimpse of the suspect's back as he fled, said police. As a preventive measure, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police proactively alerted the residents to the menace by disseminating crime alerts and crime prevention advisories via posters, letters and even SMS alerts. The message was also reinforced during MP block visits, residents' patrols, house visits and block parties where the community's help was also sought to be on the look-out for the serial molester. Extensive ground enquiries were conducted and at the same time, based on the various accounts of the victims, the officers eventually pieced together a description of the suspect. All these efforts finally paid off on Monday when police officers spotted a male youth fitting the description of the suspect while on an ambush operation. The suspect was intercepted by the officers and subsequently placed under arrest. Investigations are currently ongoing.
