SINGAPORE: Sixteen people were injured in a traffic accident at the junction of Gambas Avenue and Woodlands Avenue 12 on Saturday.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), a lorry crashed into a traffic light at the junction at around 4.15am. A crashed Mitsubishi Lancer was beside the lorry when the SCDF officers arrived.

Within 20 minutes of their arrival, SCDF officers managed to rescue the lorry driver and his front-seat woman passenger who were trapped inside the vehicle.

SCDF said the driver sustained spinal injuries while the woman suffered facial cuts and complained of chest pain. Another 10 passengers of the lorry suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Mitsubishi Lancer as well as his woman passenger also suffered minor injuries.

The 14 were all sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment.

Two children, who were in the lorry at the time of the accident, were also rushed to the KK Women's and Children Hospital for treatment.
